TRACK & FIELD

Plano West Running Wolves Track and Field Program is a part of the Texas 6A, Region 1 University Interscholastic League (UIL).

Track is one of the only sports in which it’s benefits translate across all sports.  Although there are field events in track, the primary focus is still speed and all sports can benefit from their athletes being faster.  Track can also improve strength as well.  We spend 2 days per week in the weight room working on sport specific lifts that help improve the athletes overall athletic ability.  One big advantage that track has over some team sports is that our JV and Varsity athletes train together which allows the Varsity athletes to lead the JV athletes and the JV athletes get pushed by the Varsity athletes.  But one of the most important reasons to join the PW Track team is to be part of a big family.

Specialty Meets like Jesuit-Sheaner and Texas Relays, the Running Wolves also compete in the below events:

4x800, SMR (Sprint Medley Relay), and DMR (Distance Medley Relay)

TRAINING & REQUIREMENTS

Athletes are required to have practice gear (ordered in summer or during first month of Fall and Spring), running shoes, spikes and water bottle. Track is during 7th or 8th period (last period of the day). In the fall, practice typically ends around 4:45pm and in the Spring practice will end around 5:30pm

TRACK & FIELD TRYOUTS

Track tryouts are held twice a year.  First two weeks of school in the Fall and Spring (Aug, Jan).

In order to tryout, athletes must have a recent physical (new physical required each year) and all sections of RankOne completed (planoisd.rankonesport.com)
